THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Board of Directors of The Community Clinic has recently announce the appointment of family medicine physician Dr. Janet Roberts to the position of Executive Medical Director serving as a full-time physician.

The Community Clinic is a non-profit health care center that provides free medical, dental, mental health and social services to those who are uninsured and on a limited income. It is donation-funded and staffed by licensed physicians, nurses, dentists, dental assistants, dental hygienists, social workers as well as translators and support people, all who volunteer their time and services to run the Clinic.

After serving the community for 12 years as a physician with Sadler Clinic and as a volunteer at The Community Clinic since its inception in 1996, Dr. Roberts brings a wealth of experience to the clinic’s patients as she now serves full-time on staff.

The addition of Dr. Roberts as a full-time physician will enable The Community to expand its free medical services from16 hours a week to 56 hours a week, allowing the Clinic to more fully utilize the facility and significantly increase the number of uninsured patients that are served.

Dr. Joel Kerschenbaum, the founder of The Community Clinic, said, “Through her volunteer work with the Clinic over the last 12 years, Dr. Roberts has clearly developed a heart for the Clinic and for the people it serves. We are elated that she has agreed to bring her skills to the Clinic full time.. While the physicians, nurses and other volunteers who have given so much of their time in the past are still an integral part of our overall plans, Dr. Roberts will allow us to significantly expand our services to the poor and uninsured members of our community and provide an opportunity of a more definitive continuum of care to our patients.”

He continued, “The expansion of the Clinic’s hours was made possible by the efforts of so many generous donors. Some of those particularly responsible were Dr. Jenna Everson, Shirelle Chimenti, Shelli Moran, Dr. Marra Francis, Dr. Sabrina Lahiri, Dr. Emma Sims, Dr. Noushin Hart, Ann Wolford, and Linda Nelson. This group was responsible not only for raising the funds to hire a full-time physician but also for helping to establish fund raising efforts for the future. We are very appreciative of their help.”

Dr. Roberts added, “The Clinic has provided free medical and dental services for since 1996 to the economically disadvantaged members of Montgomery County. With the help of foundation grants, local churches, the generous assistance of Memorial Hermann Hospital and the many individuals who have contributed to the Clinic, we are taking this next step to care for the many uninsured members of our community. We would like to encourage anyone who is interested to contribute their time, their talents, or their treasures to the Clinic.”

Dr. Janet Roberts is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice. In addition, she is chairman of the Department of Family Practice at Memorial Hermann-The Woodlands Hospital and has served on a number of hospital committees that focus on patient safety. She received her medical degree from the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The Community Clinic is located near The Woodlands in Oak Ridge North at 101 Pine Manor Drive and I-45, just behind Pier One.
