Ching, Holden Named to U.S. CONCAF Squad
HOUSTON, Texas -- U.S. Soccer has named Houston Dynamo players Stuart Holden and Brian Ching to the 23-man United States roster for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The regional championship tournament will take place July 3-26 in 13 different venues around the United States, including Houston. Holden and Ching will join the U.S. squad in Seattle on Monday, June 29, and will miss at least three Dynamo games, and could miss the entire month of July.
Ching, 31, has 36 appearances and 9 goals all-time for the United States, making him the highest-scoring player on the roster. Ching helped the United States to the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup title.
Holden, 23, hopes to make his senior national team debut in the tournament. He narrowly missed out on his first cap earlier this year when he was injured the night before a January friendly against Sweden. The Houston resident has played for U.S. national teams at several different age levels, including the U-23 squad at last summer’s Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
