HOUSTON, TX -- A native of Houston, Texas, will join more than 200 seriously wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans at the Warrior Games, June 13 – 20, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas.

Navy Aviation Ordnanceman 1st Class Dustin Livingston will be competing against athletes representing the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Force and U.S. Special Operations Command. During the eight-day competition, Livingston will compete in field, precision air, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby.

Hosted by the U.S. Army Transformation and Training Command (T2COM), this annual premiere and elite adaptive-sports competition highlights the exceptional physical skills and mental toughness of seriously wounded, ill and injured active-duty and veteran service members. Now in its 16th year, the Warrior Games celebrates the valor, recovery and resilience of wounded, ill and injured service members and qualifying veterans along with their families, using the power of the games to drive healing, empowerment and renewed purpose.

Livingston joined the Navy in 2009 because he wanted to follow his family tradition. In fact, he began his career in the same place where his grandfather ended his career, on the steps to the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) in Houston.

During the course of his career, Livingston had six deployments in support of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and participated in a NATO mission in Libya, earning him a number of medals and citations. His life turned on a dime when he suffered a heart attack less than a week before Christmas in 2024. He joined adaptive sports to aid his recovery, but he did not anticipate how the program would rebuild his confidence and grow his circle of support. He learned how to be safely active without his body failing him and built a network of teammates who inspire him every day. His mindset is now focused on what he can still achieve, rather than on what was lost.

This year, the Navy is commemorating its contribution to the nation’s defense as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence. According to Navy officials, for more than 250 years, the Navy has sailed the globe defending freedom and protecting prosperity. More information is available here: https://www.navy.mil/navy-250/

About Adaptive Athletics

Team Navy is recruited, trained and managed through Navy Wounded Warrior’s adaptive athletics program. A life-changing or career-altering diagnosis or condition can significantly alter service members’ physical, mental, emotional and social health. Sports become a vehicle for building self-esteem, lowering stress levels and inviting service members to rejoin a healthy social team environment. Modified equipment and additional classification systems allow each person to compete, regardless of their injury, illness or condition, allowing wounded warriors to rebuild strength and endurance while drawing inspiration from their teammates. All wounded warriors enrolled in Navy Wounded Warrior are encouraged to include adaptive athletics in their recovery.

About Navy Wounded Warrior

Navy Wounded Warrior ensures sailors and Coast Guardsmen never sail alone as they navigate a life-changing or career-altering diagnosis or condition. Our program serves as a central resource to bring together service members, their command leaders, and care providers to offer peace of mind and concrete guidance for what comes next.
