CISD student from McCullough Jr. High wins Regional Spelling Bee

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - Shourav Dasani, a seventh grade student at McCullough Junior High, won the Region 8 Spelling Bee on Thursday evening. His winning word, landward, advances him to the next round of competition.

Conroe ISD hosted the annual event at Peet Junior High which brings together individual winners from various campuses, schools, and districts in the area. Conroe ISD, Huntsville ISD, Magnolia ISD, Montgomery ISD, New Caney ISD, New Waverly ISD, Willis ISD, the National Catholic Education Association, and The Woodlands Methodist School were all represented amongst the 28 students in grades first through eighth.

Randall Reed's Planet Lincoln provided t-shirts and backpacks for each of the contestants in addition to supporting the bee financially as part of its educational community involvement.

Conroe ISD had participants from Deretchin Elementary, Hailey Elementary, Houser Elementary, Ride Elementary, Bozman Intermediate, Cox Intermediate, Mitchell Intermediate, Vogel Intermediate, Knox Junior High, and McCullough Junior High.

Shourav will compete in the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016.
