Spring Creek at I-45 out of banks; Sunday 8 a.m. Tropical Storm Harvey update from Montgomery County officials

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Woodlands Fire Department and Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) urges all residents to remain indoors and off of the roadways. If your life is in danger call 911. Please refrain from contacting emergency services unless you are experiencing an emergency.

WFD reminds all residents to stay out of rising waters due to unpredictable currents and unforeseen dangers.

If you have to get out for some reason, remember to “Turn Around Don’t Drown” if you encounter high water.

Harvey continues to be a Tropical Storm and with virtually no movement from its present location.

The current forecast has the storm tracking to the south followed by a turn to N/NE by Monday, August 28, 2017, now tracking towards the Houston Metro area. Montgomery County will remain on the wet side of the storm bringing additional rainfall to the area. Predictions indicate Harvey will be downgraded to a Tropical Depression. The Woodlands Fire Department and Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) continues to monitor the storm forecast. Depending on the information provided, the OEM is prepared to open shelters in Montgomery County if needed.

Spring Creek remains within its’ banks at Kuykendahl. Spring Creek at I-45 has risen out of its banks.

Sunday (7a.m. to 7 p.m.) rainfall predictions are between are between 2-6 inches. An additional 2 to 3 inches of rain is forecast from 7p.m. tonight until 7a.m. tomorrow. Amounts are dependent on the intensity and duration of rain bands from the storm. Areas to west and south of The Woodlands have experienced higher levels of rainfall over night. The Woodlands area has received approximately 5.9 inches of rain last night for an approximate total of 11 inches since the event’s onset.

Lake Woodlands and Bear Branch Reservoir are releasing water over their respective spillways as expected for the accumulated rainfall. Spring Creek may crest as early as Sunday morning. There is currently one power outage in Grogan's Mill (west side or the Millbend Loop) affecting 1600 customers. Estimated power restoration is 8 to 10 a.m.

Lake Conroe is currently performing controlled releases from the lake into the West Fork of the San Jacinto River.

The Woodlands Fire Department has not experienced any significant incidents or water rescues at this time. All available resources are in position to respond if needed. WFD will appropriately staff the Emergency Operations Center throughout the storm, continually monitor the situation, and provide periodic updates as needed. Trolley service has been suspended for today.
