HOUSTON, TX -- METRO riders have a new connection at the Burnett Transit Center with the opening of a new Houston BCycle station. A ribbon-cutting event today officially welcomed the new transportation link.

'None of this would be possible without a broad coalition of support for continued mobility solutions,' said METRO President & CEO Tom Lambert.

Beth Martin, Houston Bike Share Executive Director; Karla Cisneros, Houston City Council Member; Alejandro Perez from the Bicycle Advisory Committee and Christian Barraza from the Greater Northside Management District all attended the event.

'More and more, Houstonians are searching for alternatives to single-occupant car travel,' said Martin.

The BCycle station extends the transportation network available to METRO riders and provides much needed first/last mile connections to things like education and employment.

'METRO is making these connection enhancements across our system with a portfolio of bike projects which include protected bike lanes, parking and repair stations as well as bike/pedestrian bridges,' said Lambert.

Some of those projects include paths along the north and southwest METRORail corridors. The station is the 99th in the Houston BCycle network which is expected to hit 110 by the end of the year.

'We are thrilled to launch this station at Burnett Transit Center and look forward to continuing our partnership with METRO to add more multimodal connections throughout Houston,' Martin added.
