KLEIN, TX -- District 15-6A felt a thunderbolt Friday night in Klein and it wasn’t from the early rainstorm that hit the area close to kickoff. The Klein Oak Panthers water-tortured The Woodlands Highlanders all night with a steady stream of pass rush and secondary blanket coverage to frustrate and otherwise contain a potent Highlander offense.

With Peyton Janecek out with an injury, The Woodlands were forced into their one man QB setup with Ben Mills. The most-often reliable Mills was forced into long third-down situations and could only muster a first-quarter touchdown pass to the speedy Ted Knox for the only Highlander touchdown.

Fabrizio Penton would add a 27-yard field goal late in the first quarter for the other Highlander score.

Klein Oak was easily able to counter with their own 4-star receiver as Dwight McGlothern (2020) had two touchdown receptions of 48 and 64 yards from QB Montrel Bolton (2020).

The win catapults Klein Oak (2-1) into a tie for second place in District 15-6A and sets up a showdown next Friday night with district leader Klein Collins (3-0). A win by Klein Oak would give them the inside track to their first district championship under third-year head coach Jason Glenn. The program has rebounded nicely from a district opening loss to Klein two weeks ago.

Glenn has literally transformed a respected program, before his arrival, into quite possibly the best program in Klein Oak history.
The loss brings The Woodlands overall district record from 2012 to 44-2. Last season they lost to eventual district champion Klein Collins 21-17.

The Woodlands plays Klein Cain at Woodforest Stadium next Friday night at 7pm. Watch highlights of tonight's game at WoodlandsOnline.com/sports and on Twitter at @ToddJamesMedia
