THE WOODLANDS, TX -- On a night where the city is preparing for heavy rains, inside the gym, the shots were not raining for College Park on Friday night. The Cavaliers never led in the 51-35 home loss to the Klein Bearkats. Klein’s win has entered them into a first-place tie with College Park at 5-1 in District 15-6A.

It was simply a bad night for the Cavaliers. The team finished with a 28% shooting percentage, including shooting two of 16 from three, and failed to have any player reach double digits in scoring (Khi Watkins led with 8). To make matters worse, CP committed 18 turnovers due to Klein’s smothering defense.

Klein found success in a style that was somewhat similar to Virginia’s style of slowing the game down offensively and not allowing the opponent to do much when they do have the ball. The Bearkats got a boost from guard Aaron Hutchinson’s 20-point performance to go along with their impressive showing on the defensive end of the court.

The loss makes things interesting at the top of the district standings as Klein and College Park are even at 5-1 while Conroe and The Woodlands sit right behind them tied at 4-2. The good news for CP is that their next two games will give them an opportunity to recreate some space at the top of the table as their next two games will be against Conroe (1/14) and The Woodlands (1/17). Up next for the Bearkats will be 3-3 Klein Oak and 2-5 Klein Cain.
