College Park's Tyson Forrest Earns Athlete Of The Week Off A Dominant Scoring Night
THE WOODLANDS – This week hosted a couple of great varsity basketball matchups from around the district, but there was one game everyone was keeping an eye on. The Woodlands Highlanders went down the road to take on their hometown rival, the College Park Cavaliers, in the 2nd War of the Woods matchup this season. Although it was a slow start, the Cavaliers exploded in the 2nd half, leading to a big-time 68-46 win to avenge their earlier loss to the Highlanders. College Park had multiple players step up big during this game, but none shone brighter than junior guard Tyson Forrest, who has earned The Woodlands Online Sports Athlete of the Week.
Tyson Forrest: Lights Out Shooting
Coming into this game, College Park needed this win badly if they wanted to try to nab a top spot in the district before the playoffs. They answered the call convincingly, beating a strong Woodlands squad by 22 and dominating on both sides of the ball. Our Athlete of the Week, Tyson Forrest, is certainly one of the main reasons for such a big win, as he seemed to score at will once the 2nd half started. Forrest had one of the best performances we’ve seen this season, scoring 29 points in dominant fashion. His mid-range jump shot had the Highlanders scrambling all night, and he had a couple of drives to the basket that were so quick the defenders barely had time to respond. He was also a facilitator, with 3 assists and 4 rebounds, and he commanded the offense effectively throughout the night. His defense was solid too, nabbing 2 steals and, overall, doing everything his team needed him to do in key moments. Forrest also had a great game against Caney Creek earlier this week, scoring 17 points in another dominant win for the Cavaliers, really showing why he is our top Athlete of the Week. This isn’t really anything new for Forrest either, as his scoring has been top notch this season, and last night’s game was just another showing of that. His 43-point game back in December against Grand Oaks handed the Grizzlies their only loss of the season, and his 32-point game against Willis that same week powered another great win over Willis. Forrest is certainly one of the best players in the district this season, and he will be electric to watch as the season comes down to the final few games. If he keeps playing like this, College Park could be a scary team headed into the playoffs.
