THE WOODLANDS, TX - Dr. Dan Hannon, long-time local clergyman and a 2008 The Woodlands Hometown Hero, has announced his candidacy for The Woodlands Township Board of Directors. Hannon will appear on the ballot for this November 2020 General Election in position 4.

Local Pastor Seeks to Serve Community as Elected Official

Dr. Hannon is well known to many residents as the Founding & Senior Pastor of the 4,000-member Christ Church United Methodist in The Woodlands since 1991. After retiring last year as Pastor Emeritus, Dr. Hannon was presented with the opportunity to become in-house Chaplain at Interfaith of The Woodlands, a position he treasures for the contact it provides with a diversity of people in the community. Now, he also plans to turn his attentions to elected office.

“After family consultation with my wife Judy and our son Danny, and spiritual consultation in prayer to God, I feel led to offer my time and attention to public service”, stated Dr. Hannon. “Our hometown is unique in a special way, and I believe in preserving traditions of excellence. Yet, I also know that we can’t have positive growth without forward-thinking, optimistic leadership. So, I will respectfully listen to and carefully analyze all ideas and opportunities, then act in the best interests of our citizens, both residents and business owners. Most importantly, I will always remember that the monies in the Township coffers belong to the taxpayers. That means the Board is legally and morally obligated to use those funds to further the needs and wants of the people of the Township. I ask my family, friends and neighbors in The Woodlands to support me in that pledge.”

Former Township Chairman Dr. Ed Robb supported Dr. Hannon’s candidacy saying, “Dan’s foundation in growing a religious organization from the ground up, and his previous commitment to civic service in our community, has prepared him well to be a public servant for the Township. I know Dan to be even-handed, and a thoughtful planner with a leader’s heart. I will certainly vote for his election to the Township Board this November.”

Besides masters and doctorate degrees in the religious field, Dr. Hannon is a former public school teacher with two degrees in education, both as a Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack and as a University of Houston Cougar. Dr. Hannon was bestowed the Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major Award, and the Rotary Club of The Woodlands recognized him as a Paul Harris Fellow. He has committed his time and energies to community interests such Boy Scouts of America, The Woodlands High School Quarterback Club, Interfaith of The Woodlands Board of Directors/Presidency, and Conroe ISD Facilities Planning Committee. He has lent his talents to inspire youth as a motivational speaker for local high school football teams. Dr. Hannon is a proud member of the Leadership Montgomery County Class of 2010.

Early voting for The Woodlands Township Board election begins on Monday, October 19th and extends through Friday, October 30th. Election day is set for Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
