THE WOODLANDS, TX -- On Friday, October 16, 2020, the Houston Furniture Bank will celebrate the inauguration of its new 43,000-square-foot Houston Furniture Bank North location in the Woodlands, Texas. This new facility in Montgomery County is the second building operated by Houston Furniture Bank in the Greater Houston region and is located at 295 Sawdust Road, The Woodlands, Texas 77380. The new facility will provide much-needed furniture items to individuals and families in need in Montgomery County through a Furniture Distribution Center, as well as a Furniture Outlet open to the public with all proceeds going to support the mission of Making Empty Houses Homes.

The Houston Furniture Bank is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization that was founded in 1992. The 28-year-old community-serving organization is committed to Making Empty Houses Homes, and in recent years has taken on the objective of making sure no kids sleep on the floor through its No Kids On The Floor initiative. In 2020, the Houston Furniture Bank achieved 100,000 mattresses recycled through its signature Mattress Recycling Center.

“Furniture means inventory and logistics challenges. It means a big building. That’s where we step in. That’s what we do so well. That’s what we’ve been doing for 28 years. But if you look at the last five years alone, Houston Furniture Bank rose to the challenge of Hurricane Harvey. We see the tremendous potential to grow and serve our community,” said Larry Cress, Houston Furniture Bank Vice-Chairman of the Board.

“Our goal is to serve the Greater Houston Area. Here, at the new Houston Furniture Bank North location we are right in the middle of Kingwood, Cy-fair and The Woodlands. We can get to people more quickly for donation pickups. I think the community support is going to be very large here as well, and that’s what I’m most excited about,” he added.

In anticipation of its new location, Houston Furniture Bank has partnered with a number of organizations in the region, including Northwest Assistance Ministries, Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare, local churches, and other partner organizations in the local community. The new Houston Furniture Bank North building is being leased from Church Project, an active church community that is moving to a larger location and is committed to ensuring that the space will continue to enrich the community.

In Houston, the Houston Furniture Bank works with over 45 social service partner agencies to provide essential furniture to families in need. The Houston Furniture Bank serves families affected by poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, mental and physical health concerns, and disasters. In 2019, it served over 2,000 families. Following Hurricane Harvey, Houston Furniture Bank has provided furniture assistance to over 3,500 families affected by the storm.

Also, in 2019, Houston Furniture Bank launched its “No Kids on the Floor” initiative, working to ensure that no child goes without the rest that is essential to growth and learning by providing bedding to children in need. Houston Furniture Bank is a second chance organization, providing meaningful and gainful employment to over 40 families.
