THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Grand Oaks Grizzlies hosted the Caney Creek Panthers Tuesday night in their second district match of the season. Grand Oaks High School was busy due to a lightning delay and while they waited, the student section took over half of the bleachers.

As the match began Grand Oaks struck first but slowed due to many unforced errors, which would become the story of the match. Although struggling, Caney Creek was able to put points on the board against the home team. In the first set Caney Creek would score their most points of the match with 11.

Going into the second set, Grand Oaks seemed more focused and poised to make an impact on the game. Halle Thompson and Samara Coleman would pick up the slack from the missing middle blocker Jaela Auguste. She was out due to a minor injury suffered in practice.

In the second set Cibeles Bothwell would go on a serving tear. Along with help from her teammates, she would hit the serve line and go on a 13-0 run against the Caney Creek defense. Grand Oaks would easily win this set 25-7.

Defeated, Caney Creek would give it their all in the final set, only to be shut down once again from the strong attacks of Grand Oaks. Once again Samara Coleman and Halle Thompson would break through the Caney Creek defense and grab a couple of kills each.

In the end it was the unforced errors by the Grand Oaks Grizzlies that would give Caney Creek their points. Coach Rogers said they need to work on, “staying focused throughout an entire match. It’s been a while since we played three out of five.”

Although it was, simply put, an easy win, Coach Rogers would also say they had some work to do. “We’re going to work on our side, lowering errors and we should be fine.”

Grand Oaks goes on to play Willis on the road in their next match up.
