Pickleball for Every Ability
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township Parks and Recreation Department is expanding its pickleball programming with two new opportunities designed to make the sport more accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for participants of all abilities: Pickleball for Parkinson’s and Adaptive Pickleball.
Pickleball for Parkinson’s offers specialized instruction and supportive play for individuals with Parkinson’s disease, while Adaptive Pickleball provides a welcoming environment with modified instruction and an adaptable approach for players who may benefit from additional support. Both programs combine professional instruction, skill development and open play to help participants stay active, build confidence and enjoy the many physical, cognitive and social benefits of pickleball.
Parkinson’s Pickleball is offered on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Bear Branch Recreation Center outdoor covered multiuse court. Designed for individuals with Parkinson’s, the program provides a supportive environment to stay active and enjoy pickleball at a pace and level that works for each participant. Sessions incorporate movement, coordination, cognitive engagement and social interaction, creating an opportunity to build confidence, develop skills and connect with others while enjoying the game.
Adaptive Pickleball is offered on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Bear Branch Recreation Center outdoor covered multiuse court. This inclusive, drill-based clinic is for participants who may benefit from modified instruction with an adaptable approach to the game. Learn pickleball rules, movement and fundamental strokes from a USA Pickleball Ambassador and certified instructor. Following instruction, participants can put their skills into practice during open play. Each session is 90 minutes.
Whether participants are new to pickleball or looking for a supportive way to continue playing, these programs offer opportunities to stay active, learn new skills and enjoy time on the court in a welcoming setting.
