THE WOODLANDS, TX -- As the final day of the Grand Oaks Basketball Tournament winds down, the last teams compete for the Gold, Silver and Bronze bracket championship. College Park will face Tomball Memorial in the Gold, Port Arthur Memorial will face Lake Creek in Silver and Klein Cain will face MacArthur for Bronze.

For the Gold Championship, 11-2 College Park went up against 9-0 Tomball Memorial who have been running through everyone they faced. In the first quarter, College Park kept it close with tight defense and clean drives to the basket. Although evenly matched Tomball Memorial would pull slightly ahead at the end of the quarter.

In the second Tomball Memorial would start to pull away from the dominate College Park. They would essentially expose the weak points in the defense and squeeze by to chalk up points on the board. By the half Tomball would outscore College Park by 7-points.

Up 29-22, Tomball Memorial would make College Park play catchup while continuing to hit the board. College Park would struggle with the Tomball Memorial’s defense in the third and only managed to post up 7-points.

Down but not out College Park made one last effort in the final quarter to get close to Tomball Memorial’s increasing lead. Ryan Veach would end up sinking three of the teams six 3-pointers in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to gain the lead. Tomball Memorial would win 62-51.

Tomball Memorial would be this year’s Gold Bracket Championship winner and take home bragging rights until next year.

After the final match Coach Day would explain how he was able to put on such a spectacular holiday tournament.

“Well I’m very blessed because my wife [Kelly Day] does such a great job with hospitality and we have an awesome booster club lead by David Edwards.”

“It takes a village to run a tournament. Thanks to our administration for allowing us to have this.” He also would continue to say special thanks to the coaching staff for helping with the event and he looks forward to “more quality teams next year.”
