HS Boys Basketball: College Park Defeats New Caney at Home

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The (12-2) College Park Cavaliers hosted the (4-9) New Caney Eagles at College Park Friday night. College Park is holding strong in the first place seed hoping to take the 2023 district championship.

College Park came out strong in the first quarter, putting pressure on the ball and isolating the shooter away from the passing lanes. New Caney struggled to cut through the Cavalier’s defense but was able to pop off a few three pointers to get close to the lead.

By the second quarter, College Park would continue to hit the paint and drive through the New Caney defense with a high percentage success rate. New Caney once again struggled with the College Park defense on the other end of the court which resulted in a 35-21 score at the half.



New Caney came through in the second half, getting close to the College Park lead. The Cavaliers would struggle to compose themselves and made a couple of errors turning the ball over which the Eagles would convert on the other end of the court. J. Roman with New Caney would come alive in the third scoring 8 of the 14 points scored in the quarter. College Park would be out scored at the end of the quarter but still maintained a 48-35 lead going into the final quarter.

The Cavaliers lit up the final quarter, hitting five three pointers which gave them a strong lead. They would also hold the Eagles to just six points that quarter by shutting down the passing lane and tightening up their defense. College Park would win 73-41 and continue to top the district ranking with Grand Oaks who had a bye on Friday night.



College Park will face Conroe in the second to last game of district play, while New Caney hosts Caney Creek on Tuesday Night
