THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Parati traveled to The Boathouse District in Oklahoma City this past weekend for USRowing’s Central Youth Championship Regatta and a chance to qualify boats for USRowing’s Youth Nationals Regatta in Sarasota Florida next month. The young team medaled in five of their 12 events and won 2 Regional Championships.

Young Team Continues Parati's Tradition of Excellence

Jay Kirk won the men’s U17 1x handily by over 12 seconds, the gold medal matches well with his gold medal from the State Champion Regatta two weeks earlier. Parati’s Men’s Novice 4x cruised to an easy win by nearly 45 seconds. Armaan Deora, Ahren Iwanka, Sebastian Ortiz, and David Yang shocked with a 6.46 time that was the third best of all 4xs at the Regatta, many crewed by much more experienced rowers. These two Regional Championships represent Parati’s 16th and 17th Regional Championships since its founding in 2012.

USRowing’s Central Youth Championship Regatta is also the gateway to USRowing’s Youth National Regatta. Varsity athletes competing in events earn an invite to Youth Nationals in Sarasota Florida. In addition to Kirk, Regan Adams, Ava Andrews, Juliet Bohn, Avery Bennett, Lily Harrell, Patrick McKenna, Kate Oberg, Amaya Santacruz, and Abby Yacoub earned bids to Youth Nationals. Andrews, Bohn, Kirk, and McKenna will each be competing in singles, Harrell and Sanatcruz will be competing in the double, and Adams, Bennett, Oberg, and Yacoub will be competing in a quad. We wish them well as they redouble their training and travel to Sarasota the week of June 5th. Seven of the ten Parati athletes competing at USRowing Youth Nationals only began rowing in the summer of 2022. Since its founding in the fall of 2012, Parati has qualified 61 boats for USRowing’s Youth National Regatta.
