Conroe EDC Applauds Community Generosity, Transformative Expansion of Montgomery County Food Bank

CONROE, TX -- Recognized as one of the most flourishing communities in Texas, Conroe is proud to be known not only for its growing – but for its giving. The Conroe Economic Development Council (CEDC) applauds the generosity of local individuals, businesses and foundations that contributed to the “Build Today, Feed Tomorrow” capital campaign empowering Montgomery County Food Bank to complete a critical facility expansion.
The additional 18,000 square feet at Montgomery County Food Bank’s existing Woodforest Food Bank Center on Food for Life Way in Conroe will allow the Food Bank to distribute one million more meals each year as it remains centered in its mission of uniting the community to fight hunger. Amid a rapidly growing need for food assistance across Montgomery County compounded by a pause in supplemental food assistance due to the federal government shutdown, the Food Bank views this enhancement as a transformational milestone.
“This expansion represents far more than bricks and mortar,” Kristine Marlow, President and CEO of Montgomery County Food Bank, said of the Food Bank’s recently completed project. “It’s about people, purpose and partnership. It’s about what happens when a community comes together with compassion and determination to fight hunger. It’s an investment in the future of our community—one that will allow us to serve more people, provide more nutritious food, and do so with greater efficiency and care.”
Seen as a cornerstone of support for this region, Montgomery County Food Bank’s updated Conroe facility now offers expanded service capacity by virtue of an updated produce rescue center, 35 percent more parking and a brand-new Volunteer Center which doubles as an event space with professional audio/visual capabilities. According to the Food Bank, the expansion also significantly increases food sorting and storage accommodations by boosting refrigerated space by 43 percent.
Operating with the goal of enhancing Conroe’s already stellar standing as an exceptional place to live and
work, the CEDC has a front row seat to the kindness of its community. Many businesses the CEDC attracts
acknowledge that the caring nature of the community is another recruiting advantage for the City of Conroe.
From toy collections to food drives to event sponsorships, neighbors, businesses, community leaders and
nonprofits frequently champion local giving and showcase how engaged businesses are in Conroe.
The CEDC commends the compassion and action of our business and industry partners that helped
facilitate Montgomery County Food Bank’s monumental expansion – allowing the Food Bank to outpace its
efforts from 2024 when it distributed nearly nine million meals to Montgomery County neighbors.
