HOUSTON, TX -- Feeding America estimates that nearly 720,000 people in Harris and Montgomery counties (over 4 million statewide) experience hunger and food insecurity and that number could rise over the holidays. Lone Star College CARE for Completion program assists food pantries at LSC campus locations to help students, employees and community members meet this life-sustaining need.

“Hunger and food insecurity are growing problems many families face, especially during the holidays,” said Mario K. Castillo, J.D., LSC chancellor. “Lone Star College campuses offer services and resources to support students, helping them to accomplish their academic, personal and professional goals.”

LSC food pantries are open each semester to provide people with access to food options and services needed to thrive in and out of the classroom. Participants can take home a bag of groceries, snacks or additional community resources for assistance with more specific needs.

“Lone Star College not only offers affordable and quality educational opportunities, but we also have resources to help students who are struggling with tough choices between paying their rent and electric bills or keeping consistent meals on the table,” said Ashlie Resendez, LSC associate vice chancellor, Student Engagement.

LSC CARE for Completion ensures students have access to food, housing, clothing, employment, mental health and academic support resources. View LoneStar.edu/CARE for more information or a detailed list of available services.
