Now begins the betting on how many times you accidentally write “2023” on a check or other dated document. Welcome to the new year, replete with an extra day in February, four months with five weekends in them, and a whole new slew of events throughout The Woodland area. Here’s our first list of our top five favorites.

Tuesday, January 2
It’s a brand new year of Open Mic Night at the Dosey Doe Breakfast, BBQ & Whiskey Bar. Doors open at 6 p.m. for food and drink, and then the Open Mic runs from 7 - 9 p.m. Performance time slots last 15 minutes and are on a first come first serve basis. All you need to bring is your instrument and you can plug in

Tuesday - Friday, January 2 - 5
School is still out for most, so Sunny Dayz Drop-In Holiday Camp for ages 6 to 12 is in session for the rest of this week at The Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park. Campers will enjoy indoor and outdoor games, crafts, theme days, special snacks, visits to the park, dodgeball, four-square, ga ga ball, and more. Themes for each day include: Tuesday – Gingerbread; Wednesday – Camp Talent Show; Thursday – Winter Games; Friday – Back to School Party. 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. unless otherwise noted; $50 Resident per day, $60 Non-Resident per day

Head to Dosey Doe - The Big Barn tonight for the ultimate AC/DC experience as the venue presents a live music metal extravaganza. Tribute band Back In Black will be providing a true tip of the tam to the legendary band. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with dinner available from 6:30 to 8:00. Normal seat tickets are priced at $34 and obstructed seat tickets are available for $26. Don’t miss your opportunity to take part in this special show! Come early and enjoy the kitchen menu before the show starts at 8:30.

Sunday, January 7
Paint your pet at Painting with a Twist today from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Capture the essence of your furry friend in a one-of-a-kind painting experience. Simply email a photo of your beloved pet to woodlands@paintingwithatwist.com by January 5. Ensure the photo has a resolution of 300 dpi or higher for optimal results – the better the quality, the more detailed the tracing will be. During the class, bring along the same photo you submitted. Their talented artist will pre-sketch your pet based on the photo and meticulously match the colors to create a personalized masterpiece. Please limit your submission to one (1) pet per picture.
