HOUSTON, TX -- Hispanic Outlook on Education magazine recognized Lone Star College as a top degree producer for Hispanic and Latino students in the nation. LSC ranked fourth among community colleges who offer bachelor’s degrees, conferring 3,598 total degrees to Hispanic and Latino students in 2021-2022.

“Lone Star College is committed to providing the resources and support to all students to earn their degree and go on to lead successful lives,” said Mario K. Castillo, J.D., LSC chancellor. “I am proud of the work done by our faculty and staff to ensure our students are well prepared for bright futures.”

The report noted in fall 2022, the top 50 community colleges who offer bachelor’s degrees enrolled 419,753 Hispanic/Latino students, an increase of 22,750 students from fall 2021. The report also included that nearly as many Hispanic/Latino students were enrolled at the top 50 community colleges who offer bachelor’s degrees as were enrolled at the top 50 community colleges who do not offer four-year degrees, highlighting the growing importance and presence of bachelor’s degree-granting community colleges.

“My Lone Star College experience has been instrumental in shaping who I am today,” said Richard Aguilar, LSC-North Harris student and recipient of the LSC Chancellors Essay Scholarship. “The impact of my educational journey at Lone Star College has directed my life towards a brighter and more promising future.”

In addition to being recognized as a top degree producer, LSC was also ranked as having the third largest number of Hispanic and Latino students in the nation among community colleges who offer bachelor’s degrees, enrolling more than 28,200 in 2022. This is according to the latest data provided by the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, a part of the National Center for Education Statistics.

“Lone Star College is focused on both inside and outside the classroom, ensuring students receive the finest instruction and also the encouragement and backing to complete their education,” said Castillo.
