CONROE, Texas -- Joe’s Italian Restaurant, a Conroe staple since 2006, is celebrated and
highly rated for its original Italian dishes, cozy atmosphere and generous portions. This holiday season, owner
Joe Haliti and his staff once again proved authenticity and hospitality are not only found on the menu and in the
restaurant. The Conroe Economic Development Council (CEDC) applauds the generosity of the Joe’s Italian
Restaurant staff, local volunteers, donors and elected officials whose contributions helped distribute 1,700 free
meals in the restaurant’s parking lot on Christmas Eve.

“When you see the smiling faces of our community members after they receive a free meal on Christmas Eve, it
makes you feel great – it’s what keeps us going,” Haliti said of his restaurant’s initiative to prepare and hand out
1,700 holiday meals. The restaurant closed early on Christmas Eve – shutting down at 3 p.m. so the team could
clean and cook for hundreds of its neighbors in advance of the 5 p.m. giveaway. The meals were all dispensed,
no questions asked, in less than 90 minutes.

Haliti salutes the local volunteers, donors and elected officials who donate time and money to help “lighten the
burden” of such a robust operation. “Ever since we first opened our doors, this community has supported us
tremendously,” Haliti noted. “We see this as a way to thank them for their support, and we plan to do things like
this as long as we’re in business.”

A salute by serving free food is nothing new to Joe and his staff. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant
prepared and donated more than 52,000 meals for first responders, health care workers, city and county
employees and many others on the front lines of the fight against the virus. Joe’s also distributes free meals
during the Thanksgiving holiday and hands out backpacks to students prior to the start of the school year. “I’m
not originally from Conroe, but this has felt like home from the moment I got here. It’s why I sold all my other
restaurants that weren’t in Conroe. This is where I want to be and I’m glad it happened this way.”

Joe Haliti is grateful to have settled down in Conroe, and the Conroe community is thankful he chose to do so –
and not solely because of the good food and good pricing on the menu at Joe’s Italian Restaurant.
