CONROE, TX -- The Margaret Montgomery, Mary Vaughn Corner, Spring Creek, and Twin Creeks Chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution delivered 40 copies of Texas Before the Lone Star to the Conroe ISD School Board on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. The school board’s approval of this book allowed the chapters to provide one copy for each of the 40 elementary schools in the Conroe district.
Local DAR chapters give history books to schools.

Texas Before the Lone Star was written and illustrated by members of TXDAR and seeks to provide historically accurate information about Texas history before statehood—a period often overlooked in standard textbooks. Geared toward fourth graders but appropriate for all ages, the stories are told through the eyes of children. Many of these stories relate the authors' actual family histories in what was then New Spain. Providing this valuable resource to all public schools in Texas is the administration project of TXDAR State Regent Susan Johnston.

Individual copies of the book may be purchased on Amazon. It is an honor for the Margaret Montgomery, Mary Vaughn Corner, Spring Creek, and Twin Creeks Chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution to serve Conroe ISD.
