Award-winning Coach Kyle Coats named Atascocita’s Head Football Coach
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Humble ISD has named Kyle Coats as Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach for Atascocita High School.
“Atascocita has been a top-tier program in the State of Texas since I began coaching, and I’ve always admired the talented and physical teams Coach Stump and his staff have put on the field,” Coats said. “The brand of Atascocita Football carries a lot of weight, and I’m excited to lead this program into a new era as we get started!”
Coats’ first day will be Feb. 23rd. Coats brings an impressive record from coaching at College Park High School in The Woodlands, DeSoto High School, Westwood High School in Round Rock, and at various universities.
At College Park High School in 2025, the Cavaliers went 12-1 and scored an average of nearly 50 points a game while holding teams to an average under 16 points a game. The College Park Cavaliers won the 2025 District 13-6A Championship. Coats was named the 2025 District 13-6A Coach of the Year and the 2025 Inside Houston Sports Houston Coach of the Year. The Cavalier Football Program was also named the 2025 Dave Campbell’s Performance Team of the Year in Houston.
At DeSoto High School as Defensive Coordinator, Coats helped lead DeSoto to the 2022 Class 6A Division II State Championship. The DeSoto defense that year allowed less than 17 points a game.
Coach Coats’ career also includes three years as a Defensive Analyst with the Defensive Backs at the University of Texas. He also coached at East Texas Baptist University, Hardin-Simmons University, and Trinity University.
Coats brings 15 years of experience in coaching. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Trinity University where he played Safety and Outside Linebacker, and he earned his master’s degree at Hardin-Simmons University. He and his wife, Lauren, are the parents of 2 children, Calvin, age 3, and Preston, age 1.
The Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach position became open after Coach Craig Stump retired at the end of January. Stump coached 23 years, including 14 years at Atascocita High School. At Atascocita, the football program has produced multiple 10 win seasons in the last 10 seasons and advanced to the Class 6A Division 1 State Semifinals in 2016.
