Sandee June takes the spotlight with award win and surprise performance at Texas Regional Radio Music Awards
Sandee June accepts New Female Vocalist of the Year award at the Texas Regional Radio Music Awards on March 23 at Texas Live! in Arlington.
SANTA FE, TX -- Texas country artist Sandee June added a major career milestone to an already unforgettable month, taking home New Female Vocalist of the Year at the Texas Regional Radio Music Awards on Monday, March 23, at Texas Live! in Arlington.
The fan-voted honor highlighted a powerful night for June, who also performed her current single and No. 1 Texas country hit, “Southern King,” earlier in the show.
“I’m still trying to take it all in,” said June. “The whole night felt surreal. To be recognized in this way, especially knowing it came from the fans, means more than I can even put into words. I’m just so overjoyed and grateful.”
Visibly emotional as she accepted the award, June shared a heartfelt message with the audience, reflecting on her unlikely journey into music.
“I know a lot of you know my story. I didn’t start a music career until I was 50 years old,” she said. “My mom always said, ‘don’t die with your music still inside;’ and my daddy said, ‘I don’t care how old you get, don’t ever stop learning something new.’ I am proof that anything can happen if you put your heart and soul into it.”
Newly inducted member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Paul Overstreet, presented June with the award. After praising her artistry, Overstreet surprised June by asking if she would perform her upcoming single, “June’s Honky Tonk Moon,” on the spot, and he joined her on stage to play along. Having previously heard the song and become a fan, Overstreet and June delivered a special impromptu performance that was one of the night’s most memorable moments.
The award and standout performances come on the heels of back-to-back No. 1 singles for June, including her previous chart-topper, “Hurricane,” solidifying her place as one of Texas country’s fastest-rising artists.
“Southern King” is available on all major streaming platforms and continues to receive airplay on Texas Country radio stations statewide.
