Join the Movement - Turn Bookmarks With Messages Into Meaningful Change
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Join the Movement—Turn Bookmarks with Messages into Meaningful Change!
Bullying in our schools. Teen suicides. Violence in our communities. Each day, it seems like we receive heartbreaking reports of abuse and violence across our country and state. Efforts to support victims are expanding—domestic violence shelters are growing, law enforcement personnel are receiving more de-escalation training, and school personnel are implementing anti-bullying programs on their campuses. Yet, these critical resources need additional help to proactively prevent violence, bullying, and conflict from occurring in the first place.
Montgomery County children are leading the way in this proactive initiative. Students in grades K– 8 from public, private and home schools create “Bookmarks with Messages” for the Dispute Resolution Center of Montgomery County, Inc.’s (DRC-MC) annual Conflict Resolution Bookmark Art Contest. Their bookmark art promotes kindness, embracing differences, and peaceful conflict resolution.
This year, the DRC-MC received 2014 bookmark art entries. In March, forty-five judges selected the 2026 winners, including the nine special winning bookmarks that the DRC-MC will reproduce and distribute free of charge throughout the county. Montgomery County residents can help expand the reach of the 2026 Bookmarks with Messages by participating in the DRC-MC’s new Pass it on Challenge. “To participated in the Pass it on Challenge, community members simply take 2026 winning bookmarks for themselves and also take an equal number of the winning bookmarks to pass on to their friends, neighbors, family members and co-workers”, said Elaine Roberts, President and CEO of the DRC-MC.
The Pass It on Challenge recognizes that the children’s “Bookmarks with Messages” are more than just art—they are powerful tools for change. By taking the Pass It On Challenge, community members can utilize the bookmarks to initiate real life conflict resolution conversations within their families, and in classrooms, workplaces, and their communities. Laury Adams, creator of the Pass It On Challenge concept, says “the lovely student Bookmarks With Messages aren’t meant to be simply tucked away in books—they’re meant to be seen, shared, and lived. When we share the children’s positive art messages with others, we help nurture respect and build healthy relationships. This creates a future where violence, bullying, and escalating conflict are prevented before they begin.”
Printed copies of nine Bookmarks with Messages are available at all branches of the Montgomery County Memorial Library System. They are also available through the DRC-MC website at www.resolution-center.org and at various public locations until supplies are exhausted.
The Dispute Resolution Center of Montgomery County, Inc. (DRC-MC) is a 501(c) (3) corporation.
