Local Woman Turns Personal Trials into Community Lifeline: Tiffany Tiffany’s Heart & Hammer TX Restores Homes and Hope
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- After surviving a mysterious life-threatening illness that left her on bed rest for nearly two years, battling memory loss, and facing closed doors in her trade, Tiffany Plunk made a radical choice: she would use her second chance at life to serve others.
In December 2024, just weeks after being cleared to return to construction work she had performed for over a decade, Tiffany launched three organizations — two nonprofits and one small business — dedicated to lifting up those in need. Today, she stands as the founder and driving force behind Heart & Hammer TX, Undefeated TX, and her for-profit remodeling company Femme Fix It.
“I promised myself that if I survived my illness, I would dedicate my life to helping others,” Tiffany said, reflecting on the journey that began in 2019 when she became seriously ill. After years of misdiagnoses, surgeries (including the removal of an organ), and a period of severe brain swelling that erased her short-term memory for nearly 18 months, she emerged determined to live with purpose.
Her travels around the world — from riding camels near the Egyptian pyramids and sandboarding in the Sahara to surfing in Costa Rica and dog sledding in Alaska — opened her eyes not just to adventure, but to the quiet struggles of everyday people. Time and again, she witnessed families devastated by home damage they couldn’t afford to repair. That realization, combined with her own history as a domestic violence survivor, became the foundation for her nonprofit work.
A Leap of Faith That Sparked a Movement -
Unable to find traditional construction work after her recovery, Tiffany took a bold step on December 1, 2024. She posted in a local Facebook group offering her skilled labor for free to anyone who needed home repairs but couldn’t afford to pay for the work — asking only that they cover the cost of materials.
The response was immediate and overwhelming. What began as one woman’s offer quickly evolved into Heart & Hammer TX, a nonprofit committed to the belief that “everyone deserves a safe, functional, and dignified home regardless of income or age.” The organization provides free skilled labor for essential repairs and renovations, focusing on veterans, seniors, and families on fixed incomes.
In its first year, Heart & Hammer TX has already completed more than $240,000 worth of work with less than $20,000 in financial contributions — a testament to Tiffany’s decision to take no salary from the nonprofit so every dollar possible goes directly to those being helped.
To support herself, she runs Femme Fix It, a small remodeling company. “It pays my bills… most of the time,” she says with a laugh, showing the same resilience and humor that carried her through her health battles.
Undefeated TX, her second nonprofit, draws directly from her personal experience as a domestic violence survivor. It offers free self-defense, financial literacy, and life skills classes to girls ages 10 and up, with the goal of prevention and empowerment so young women can build independent, safe futures.
A Veteran Family’s Fresh Start -
Tiffany’s most ambitious project to date perfectly illustrates both the depth of need in the community and the power of collective compassion.
In January, the wife of a disabled veteran reached out for help. The family — the veteran, his wife (who left her career in law to become his full-time caregiver), and their daughter — had been living with her father for nearly two years after severe mold damage rendered their home unlivable. What began as a roof leak escalated into a crisis. After insurance battles, the roof was repaired, but mold had spread throughout the entire house, with visible growth on every surface. Remediation costs topped $30,000 — far beyond the family’s means.
In a touching full-circle moment, Tiffany discovered that the veteran’s wife’s father was actually the very first person she helped back in December 2024. He is wheelchair-bound from a series of debilitating strokes and needed assistance with a burst water pipe during a freeze.
What started as one family’s desperate situation has become a powerful community effort. Over the past three months, volunteers and partners have transformed the home.
Heart & Hammer TX partnered with:
-
Home Depot, HEB, and Capital One
-
Veterans and Patriots United
-
Xtreme Cleaning and Remediation Services (which provided equipment, guidance, and ongoing support at no cost)
-
Whitten Way Junk Haulers
-
RandAll Plumbing
-
Mattress By Appointment (Garrett Dixon)
-
Willis Self Storage (box springs)
-
Wilson’s Appliances (donating brand new appliances)
-
JD Plumbing Precision (new hot water heater)
-
Texan Mattress (providing beds)
-
And countless individuals donating furniture and labor
On 27 April 2026, members of Lonestar Cowboy Church gathered to pray over the home as appliances were installed and the family prepared to move back in — marking a true fresh start after the house had to be completely gutted.
Tiffany readily acknowledges that support from local volunteers are key to the scope and impact of her projects. Critical support from Veterans & Patriots United, a Walker County nonprofit founded by Amos Savell, provided hundreds of hours of volunteer work from local military veterans.
Selfless Service Over Personal Gain -
Tiffany is clear-eyed about the financial reality of her choice. “I know this path is not one that leads to personal wealth, and that is something I have made peace with,” she said. “What it offers instead is something far greater. I have been given a second chance at life, and I choose to spend it serving others.”
Even as she continues her own recovery and works to keep her small business afloat, Tiffany shows up daily with tools in hand, driven by the conviction that using her skills to restore dignity, stability, and hope is worth every sacrifice.
Her story — and the growing impact of Heart & Hammer TX and Undefeated TX — stands as a powerful reminder of what’s possible when one person decides to turn pain into purpose and when a community comes together to lift one another up.
Through her leadership, a disabled veteran and his family are finally returning to a safe, mold-free home. And many more in the Montgomery County area will have access to repairs, education, and empowerment because one woman refused to let her own hardships define her — choosing instead to build a legacy of selfless service, one hammer strike at a time.
