MCSO Crime Reduction Unit Apprehends Two Suspects with 20 Stolen Catalytic Converters
CONROE, TX -- On April 30, 2026, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office South County Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) successfully apprehended two individuals involved in a large-scale catalytic converter theft operation.
CRU Deputies initiated a targeted traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle while conducting proactive patrols. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded 20 stolen catalytic converters and a reciprocating saw, a tool frequently utilized in the rapid theft of exhaust components.
Following the stop, further investigation revealed that four of the recovered catalytic converters had been stolen earlier that same day from within the City of Conroe. Thanks to the diligent work of the deputies, those four converters were successfully identified and returned to their rightful owner.
The suspects were identified as confirmed gang member, 43-year-old, Odis Lee Carter, and 26-year-old Xavian Kell Simmons. Deputies discovered Simmons had an active warrant for Burglary, and Carter had an active warrant for Possession of Marijuana. Both men were transported to the Montgomery County Jail where they face new charges of Felony Unauthorized Possession of Catalytic Converter, Failure to ID Fugitive, and Possession of Marijuana.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere gratitude to all law enforcement partners who assisted on this case including The Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force, the Gang Investigation Unit, Texas DPS, and Conroe PD.
