Lone Star College-University Park celebrates first inductees into new National Technical Honor Society chapter

HOUSTON, TX -- Lone Star College-University Park marked a milestone for its workforce education programs April 30, inducting five students into its newly formed National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) chapter.

The chapter was established earlier this spring to recognize student achievement, leadership and skill development in career and technical education programs.

“Being inducted into the National Technical Honor Society means a lot to me because it shows that the effort I’ve put into my education is paying off,” said Ramona Morgan, LSC-University Park student and one of the chapter’s inaugural inductees. “It’s encouraging to be recognized alongside other driven students, and it pushes me to stay focused on my goals and future career.”

Founded in 1984, the National Technical Honor Society recognizes excellence in career and technical education and supports students through scholarships, career development resources and opportunities that connect education with industry. NTHS serves students in secondary and postsecondary institutions across the country.

Students, campus leaders, family members, and guests gathered at the Energy & Manufacturing Institute (EMI) for the chapter’s first induction ceremony, celebrating students pursuing technical education and career-focused pathways. Each inductee received a framed certificate, an honorary NTHS graduation stole and cord.

“This inaugural induction is an important milestone for our students and our campus,” said Dr. Andrew Johnson, dean of Workforce at LSC-University Park. “The National Technical Honor Society gives us another way to recognize students who are building strong technical skills, demonstrating leadership and preparing for high-demand careers.”

LSC-University Park’s Computer and Engineering Technology Division led the effort to establish the chapter. The Hoyt Foundation has also played a key role in supporting development and future success.

With the addition of the NTHS chapter, LSC-University Park expands how it celebrates student achievement in career and technical education while building a stronger culture of recognition across its workforce programs.
