17-Year-Old Charged After Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old in Montgomery County, Investigation Ongoing

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- On July 9, 2026, at approximately 5:13 a.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office received two 911 calls reporting a callers finding a 16 year old male suffering from a gunshot wound.

Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, along with Montgomery County Hospital District medics, responded to the scene. Despite life-saving efforts being initiated immediately, the juvenile was pronounced deceased at approximately 6:00 a.m.

Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit along with Crime Scene Investigators responded to the location and are conducting their investigation. All involved parties remained at the scene and are currently being interviewed by detectives. During the investigation, detectives identified one of the parties as 17-year-old Messiah Archuleta, who was subsequently charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The events surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. Based on the information available at this time, there is no threat to the public.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available. The name of the deceased will not be released until extended family notifications are made.
