GPS Tracking Leads to Recovery of Stolen Skid Steer in Montgomery County; Suspect Arrested

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- On August 31, 2026, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle along FM 2090. The stolen equipment, a skid steer owned by a private company, was left at the location overnight while crews performed work for the Texas Department of Transportation.

The owner contacted dispatch after receiving real-time motion alerts on his phone and actively tracked the vehicle using GPS devices.

As the tracking data indicated the equipment was traveling southbound on US Highway 59, officers with the Woodbranch Police Department located and intercepted the transport vehicle. A Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived on scene shortly after to assist. Following an initial investigation, deputies confirmed the skid steer was stolen and taken without consent.

The suspect operating the transport vehicle, identified as twenty-four-year-old Caleb Dardar, was taken into custody without incident. Dardar was charged with Felony Theft and booked into the Montgomery County Jail. Dardar also had an outstanding felony warrant out of Harris County for Aggravated Robbery.

The truck and trailer used to haul the stolen machinery were transported to the Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force, where investigators are working to determine if those vehicles were also stolen.

During the course of the investigation, deputies discovered a second skid steer was stolen from the FM 2090 job site at the same time as the first piece of equipment. The second machine was transported into Harris County and was recovered by Houston Police Department. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
