YMCA of Greater Houston Celebrates Healthy Aging Month With Senior Open House Sept. 9
HOUSTON, TX -- More than 40% of adults age 45 and older report experiencing loneliness, highlighting the importance of nurturing meaningful social connections and community engagement as people age, according to the AARP Foundation. To engage with this community during Healthy Aging Month, the YMCA of Greater Houston is inviting Houstonians 55 and better, along with their families, friends, and caregivers, to this year’s Senior Open House on Wednesday, Sept. 9. At YMCA locations across Greater Houston, guests can tour their local YMCA, meet with YMCA staff and uncover how staying active, socially engaged, and connected contributes to a healthier lifestyle.
“Many are entering a new phase of life, and doing so alongside a community while participating in activities that encourage movement, relationship building and exploring new interests keeps adults of all ages active and engaged,” said Stephen Ives, president and CEO, YMCA of Greater Houston. “Through our ForeverWell program, specifically for adults 55 and better, we create opportunities for connection and engagement.”
Held at YMCA locations across Greater Houston, attendees will explore their local YMCA and learn more about ForeverWell programming. Activities include vendor fairs with community partners, facility tours, prize drawings and giveaways and educational programs with demonstrations. Guests can check with their local YMCA for a full list of activities and participation details.
With year-round activities, adults 55 and better can stay involved in ForeverWell by exploring new hobbies and maintaining healthy habits. Members can participate in a variety of programs, including:

Research from the McKinsey Health Institute shows older adults are happier and healthier when they participate more in society. Through ForeverWell, the YMCA of Greater Houston puts these principles into action by promoting healthy aging and serving as a place where everyone can feel connected and have a sense of belonging. As Healthy Aging Month encourages older adults to prioritize their well-being, the YMCA of Greater Houston is helping individuals find purpose and community at every stage of life.
The YMCA of Greater Houston also accepts SilverSneakers, Renew Active, and Silver&Fit fitness programs for seniors through participating Medicare plans, helping make YMCA programs more accessible to older adults.
