Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Responds to Report of Possible Gunshots Near Willie Williams Elementary School

MAGNOLIA, TX -- Today at approximately 12:40 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Precinct 5 Constables Office received a report of possible gunshots in the area of Willie Williams Elementary School in Magnolia.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded immediately and worked quickly to secure and clear the school. After a thorough investigation, law enforcement determined there was no active shooter at the school, no injuries were reported, and there are no known threats to the students or teachers.

Law enforcement officers will remain on campus as a precaution.

At this time, it is possible the sounds initially reported as gunshots were thunder associated with the weather in the area. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the quick response of the assisting law enforcement agencies and the cooperation of school staff and the community.

Statement from Magnolia Independent School District:

A teacher at Williams Elementary, located in an interior room, was not aware that a thunderstorm was moving into the area. Around 12:45, the teacher heard a clap of thunder, which they mistook for a gunshot. The teacher called 911 directly, prompting Precinct 5 Constable’s Office and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department to respond immediately. This response prompted several of our schools to go into lockdown. There were no gunshots, and at no time was any student or employee threatened. All MISD schools are safe and secure. We appreciate the quick response of our local law enforcement agencies and their continued commitment to keeping our students and staff safe.
