CONROE, TX -- A man-eating plant is about to take center stage as Oak Ridge High School theatre students bring the cult-classic musical Little Shop of Horrors to life for three performances over Halloween weekend.

Directed by Jeffrey Ott and Hannah Rader, the Oak Ridge High School Theatre Department will present the musical Thursday, Oct. 29, through Saturday, Oct. 31, with evening performances at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and a special Halloween matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Due to ongoing construction at Oak Ridge High School, all three performances will take place at Grand Oaks High School in Spring, Texas.

A Musical with a Bite

Set in a struggling flower shop on Skid Row, Little Shop of Horrors follows Seymour Krelborn, a shy floral assistant who discovers a strange and unusual plant that quickly captures the public’s attention. As the mysterious Audrey II grows, so does Seymour’s popularity. But he soon discovers that his newfound success comes at a terrifying price.

Featuring music by Alan Menken and book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, the musical has entertained audiences for decades with its unforgettable characters, dark humor, and memorable songs, including “Suddenly, Seymour” and “Somewhere That’s Green.”

With its unique blend of comedy, suspense, and science-fiction-inspired storytelling, Little Shop of Horrors is a fitting production for the Halloween season.

Showcasing Student Talent Onstage and Behind the Scenes

Beyond the performances onstage, the production highlights the creativity, dedication, and teamwork of Oak Ridge High School’s theatre students.

Bringing a musical of this scale to life takes more than a talented cast. Students contribute to nearly every aspect of the production, from acting and singing to set construction, lighting, sound, costumes, and stage management.

“I’m incredibly proud of the dedication and creativity these students have shown in bringing this production to life,” said Jeffrey Ott, Oak Ridge High School theatre director. “Putting on a musical is a tremendous undertaking, and doing so while navigating construction and performing at another campus has required even more flexibility and teamwork. Our students have embraced the challenge, and we are excited to share their hard work with the community for what promises to be a fun and memorable Halloween weekend.”

A Halloween Treat for the Community

Oak Ridge High School Theatre invites students, families, alumni, and residents throughout The Woodlands, Oak Ridge, and surrounding communities to enjoy the production while supporting local student performers.

Whether you’re a longtime musical theatre fan or simply looking for something different to enjoy during Halloween weekend, Little Shop of Horrors promises an entertaining mix of music, laughter, and a few unexpected surprises.
