Entergy Texas invests in the future workforce through STEM scholarships for students attending minority serving institutions
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Entergy Texas is investing in the future of higher education and workforce development by awarding a total of $10,000 in STEM scholarships to three outstanding students in the Greater Houston and Beaumont area. The scholarships are part of Entergy’s $20 Million Power of Prosperity initiative, which supports HBCUs and Minority-serving Institutions across the Gulf South to help remove barriers to students’ academic success.
The initiative pillars include academic scholarships, workforce development including student internships, mentoring and faculty externships; generational wealth-building; and competitive facility grants and endowments. Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing degrees in high-demand fields such as computer science, information technology, engineering and related disciplines that align with the evolving energy workforce.
The 2026 scholarship recipients are:
Dorisa Nishimwe – University of Houston, majoring in Computer and Information Sciences.
“I am proud and honored to receive the Entergy STEM Scholarship for the second year. The support Entergy provides has been immensely helpful, from the scholarship itself to the mentorship program I participated in during my first year. These opportunities have helped me continue excelling academically and growing as a student.”
Alexander Puente – Lamar Institute of Technology, majoring in Chemical Process Technology
“I am committed to my goals, and this scholarship will help me reach them more quickly. My long-term goal is to complete my degree and obtain a meaningful career as a Process Operator. Receiving this scholarship will help reduce the financial stress of education and allow me to focus more on my classes. I am grateful to know there are companies like yours who want to help students succeed while easing the financial burden of school.”
Ncube Methembe – Lamar Institute of Technology, majoring in Instrumentation Technology
“As a computer science student and someone deeply passionate about technology, I’m excited by the potential of AI to transform the way we live and work. At the same time, I’m passionate about the challenge of building the energy infrastructure needed to power that transformation sustainably. This scholarship will help me pursue my goal of working at the intersection of computing and energy, developing more efficient technologies and infrastructure to help power the AI revolution.”
The Competitive Facilities Grant portion of the program will provide up to $1 million in funding this year for accredited HBCUs and Minority Serving Institutions in Entergy’s service area to help upgrade classrooms, labs and equipment. Awards will be announced during the fall semester.
