Royal Texan Homes Named GHBA Custom Home Builder of the Year for Second Consecutive Year
HOUSTON, TX -- Royal Texan Homes LLC earned its second consecutive Custom Home Builder of the Year title at the Greater Houston Builders Association's 2026 Prism Awards on October 10, receiving 13 awards across company, individual, and homebuilding categories.
Montgomery County builder earns 13 Prism Awards as it works to raise expectations for home design and construction across Greater Houston
Adam Head was named Construction Manager of the Year, Talison Davis received Design Professional of the Year, and Amber Jarvis was named Marketing Professional of the Year. This marks Davis's third individual design honor, following her 2024 GHBA Designer of the Year award, the last year the category was offered, and the Texas Association of Builders' statewide Designer of the Year recognition in 2025. Seven additional awards recognized the company's custom-home designs, elevations, kitchens, outdoor living, and baths.
The results follow Royal Texan Homes' 2026 Texas Association of Builders Star Awards Grand Award for custom homebuilding and 19 individual Star Awards earlier this year.
Based in Montgomery County and serving Greater Houston, Royal Texan Homes builds architecturally significant, better-performing homes that are historically inspired and designed for modern living. Founder Mark Garraty sees an opportunity to bring greater architectural attention and construction quality to the region's growing communities.
While Royal Texan Homes builds approximately 40–50 homes annually, its commitment to improving the quality of homebuilding in Texas reaches far beyond those individual projects. Garraty regards seeing other builders incorporate ideas demonstrated in Royal Texan's homes as both flattering and evidence of the company's broader influence on the industry.
That ambition has roots in his own journey. Garraty grew up in England, surrounded by historic architecture, and moved to Texas nearly twenty years ago, drawn by the opportunity to build a business through hard work and ability. He founded Royal Texan Homes in 2014.
His approach to developing the team follows the same principle: recognize ability, provide opportunity, and expect people to deliver.
"I'm incredibly proud that we've built a place where meritocracy and delivering on your promises—to each other, and more importantly to our clients—is paramount," Garraty said. "It's a culture of faith, integrity, and relationships, underpinned by attention to detail in everything we do."
Jarvis's career illustrates that approach. Two years ago, she was working in retail when Garraty visited her store. Impressed by the care she took in her work, he brought her into Royal Texan Homes. Today, she leads its marketing team.
Accepting her award, Jarvis thanked Garraty and Managing Director Ashley Walker: "If it wasn't for Mark walking into a random store two years ago I wouldn't be here today."
Head echoed the importance of the team. "I've worked at a few places, but there's something special about Royal Texan," he said. Davis thanked Garraty and Walker "for always giving me the opportunity and always having faith in me."
For Garraty, those opportunities—and what people do with them—are a practical expression of the American dream that brought him to Texas.
