MONTGOMEREY COUNTY, TX -- Residents across Montgomery County can now nominate a neighbor, a parent or themselves to receive a Cummins 20kW home standby generator, fully installed at no cost. The giveaway is being run by A&A GenPro, a Houston-area generator dealer, in partnership with Cummins. Entry is free, no purchase is necessary, and nominations close December 15. Entrants are asked to share the story of a power outage that affected them or someone they are nominating. Several entries have already come in from around the county. One nomination describes a man in Spring who works full time from home while caring for his disabled wife, whose family slept on an air mattress in the living room for more than a year following an outage. Another describes a woman in Porter who drives her husband to weekly appointments after he suffered three strokes, and who depends on a CPAP machine. A third describes a Tomball man who spent four to five days sitting in his truck to stay warm during the February 2021 winter storm. Hurricane Beryl left more than 2.2 million CenterPoint Energy customers without power in July 2024, with more than 1.6 million still out two days later. Montgomery County was among the areas that waited longest for restoration. Ten finalists will be selected after nominations close on December 15, and a winner will be drawn live between December 26 and 31. The generator will be installed in early 2027. Nominations are open to residents of Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Brazoria, Galveston and Waller counties. Details and the nomination form are available at genprogiveaway.com.
