In a style described as "soft geometry", San Antonio artist G.E. Mullan portrays the mood and timeless beauty of the American Southwest. Deep smoky blues and earthy desert colors combine in designs sweepingly linear and stylized. His figures are mostly women silhouetted against a background softened by splashes of color, flowing hair and garments interact with other elements, creating a pattern within a pattern. Pots, baskets, blankets and beads are everyday items of native life which Mullan also incorporates into his designs. Long fascinated by the diversity of cultures found in the Southwest, Mullan has traveled widely researching the myths and rituals of the region. Receiving his formal eduation in art, theology and history, Mullan taught art for 12 years before deciding to devote himself full time to painting and printmaking. Mullan's work is in corporate and priate collections across the US and Europe and has been widely exhibited in galleries and museums.
