Congratulations to the Academy for Science & Technology Envirothon teams that won first and second places at the annual Texas State Envirothon, April 21-23. The second place team is Matthew Reid, Anna Glotzbach, Fleur Leussink, Meagan Thibodaux, and Jaime Sepulveda. The first place team is Mark Pauls, Brittany Newsham, Jiayi Kong, Marianne Braun, and Alixe Christie. Both teams are sponsored by Rick Perzan and Terry Atkinson.

The AST first place team earns an expenses-paid trip to the 2007 Canon International Envirothon in Geneva, New York at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, July 29-August 3. They will compete for scholarships totaling $25,000.

The Texas Envirothon team competition is part of North America's largest and most academically challenging high school environmental competition. The goal of Envirothon is to enhance students' environmental literacy and enable them to make informed decisions regarding the environment. Through several months of study, teams of five students prepare themselves for testing in wildlife biology, forestry, aquatics, soil science, and a current environmental issue. At Envirothon, teams must work together to answer knowledge-based questions in outdoor field-testing stations and also apply that knowledge to solve real-life problems.
