Houston, TX –- Retail gasoline prices spiked for the third week in a row with some Texas cities rising as high as ten cents per gallon, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average increased nine cents to $2.80 a gallon.

“Oil industry analysts say record crude oil prices hovering above $90 per barrel have put upward pressure on pump prices,” said AAA Texas spokeswoman Rose Rougeau. “Every city surveyed saw substantial price increases this week.”

The Houston area has the state’s cheapest gas at $2.72 – despite a weekly increase of ten cents. Amarillo has the state’s highest average price at $2.92 a gallon – up eight cents.

AAA Texas Fuel Savings Tip of the Week: Avoid quick starts and sudden stops. This wastes fuel, is harder on vehicle components and increases the odds of a traffic crash.
