Fondren Orthopedic Group Receives MRI Accreditation

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Fondren Orthopedic Group LLP in The Woodlands is pleased to announce their recent accreditation in the areas of musculoskeletal by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Magnetic Resonance Laboratories (ICAMRL).

Participation in the accreditation process is voluntary, indicating a facility’s commitment to quality magnetic resonance imaging and a willingness to meet ICAMRL’s nationally recognized, intersocietal standards for providers of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures.

“We are excited about our laboratory’s MRI accreditation,” said Dr. A. Brant Lipscomb, Jr. “During the review process every aspect of our laboratory’s daily operations and the impact on quality of health care provided to our patients was assessed and reviewed by a panel. We were required to document detailed information about all operational and technical components and submit protocols and case studies. Our patients can be assured that Fondren Orthopedic Group is continually striving to give them the best care available.”

The ICAMRL is comprised of five sponsoring organizations: the American Academy of Neurology, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Neuroimaging and the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, along with at-large board members representing radiology.

Specializing in sports medicine and orthopedic, joint replacement, shoulder, foot and ankle surgery, Fondren Orthopedic Group utilizes the medical expertise of A. Brant Lipscomb, Jr., M.D., P.A; Kelly W. Blevins, M.D., P.A.; and Kevin J. Coupe, M.D., P.A. Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy is administered by Andy Cox, PT, physical therapy director.

All of the doctors at Fondren Orthopedic Group in The Woodlands are certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and hold Texas medical licenses. Each doctor also has affiliations with local hospitals including St. Luke’s Community Medical Center – The Woodlands Hospital, Memorial Hermann – The Woodlands Hospital and Texas Orthopedic Hospital.

Dr. Lipscomb specializes in sports medicine, shoulder and knee surgery. He received his MD as well as his BA from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He also served Vanderbilt University as a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery. He serves as team physician for The Woodlands High School and cares for numerous professional and amateur athletes. Dr. Lipscomb also holds Certification in Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Blevins practices general orthopedic surgery with an interest in sports injuries of the hip and knee, joint replacement surgery and foot and ankle disorders. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Texas A&M University before receiving his MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center. He has also served as the chief of surgery at Memorial Hermann – The Woodlands Hospital.

Dr. Coupe is a general orthopedic surgeon with a focus on sports medicine, shoulder and knee surgery. He graduated from Rice University with a Bachelor of Arts degree before receiving his MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center. Dr. Coupe served as the team physician for Rice University for ten years, as well as assistant professor of orthopedics at the University of Texas Health Science Center of Houston from 1995 to 2005.
