THE WOODLANDS -- The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will host a Replenishment Blood Drive for long time Sheriff’s Office Deputy Larry Brandt’s grandson.

Three-year-old, Luca Campana, was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia several months ago. Luca has been in and out of Texas Children’s Hospital and has had many blood transfusions. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and other Montgomery County employees are joining together to host a “Blood Usage Reimbursement”, with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to replenish Texas Children’s Hospital for the blood that has been used for Luca.

Thanks to a wonderful donor on the bone marrow registry, Luca has had a successful bone marrow transplant. Luca receives blood and platelet transfusions about every three days, like many of the kids in the bone marrow transplant unit. To patients who must receive blood, volunteer donors are more precious than diamonds. Sharon Campana, Luca’s mom, said “We have relied on complete strangers who have given part of themselves to save our child. To those who have donated blood selflessly to save others, we say thank you.”

Sheriff Tommy Gage encourages participation in this worthwhile effort and said, “Your donation is important, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office knows that volunteer blood donors are the heart of Commit for Life, and both the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Blood Center are deeply grateful for the life-saving gifts.”
