THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The American Board of Phlebology has announced that Dr. Reger has earned board certification in the specialty of Phlebology from the American Board of Phlebology. Dr. Reger was first board certified by the ABPh in June of 2009. This is the second class of Diplomats for ABPh, which now includes an exclusive group of 412 Diplomats nationwide. He is currently 1 of only 3 board certified physicians in Phlebology in Harris and Montgomery counties and 1 of 22 in the state of Texas.

It’s with great pride that we announce this accomplishment by Dr. Reger. Certification with the American Board of Phlebology is a direct reflection of his skill, knowledge, and experience in providing quality patient care, and his continued commitment to the advancement of vein care. To become board certified is truly an accomplishment. Less than 1% of all Phlebology professionals in the U.S. have earned certification from the ABPh.

To become an ABPh diplomat, an applicant must complete the requisite training or experience qualifications, meet the continuing medical education requisites, and pass a stringent certification examination. Certification periods are ten years and maintenance is dependent on the ability of the diplomat to display competency in four areas of assessment: evidence of professional standing, evidence of commitment to lifelong-learning and periodic self-assessment, evidence of cognitive expertise, evaluation of performance in practice.

Dr. Reger graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston with over 14 years experience. Dr. Reger established Vein and Laser Center in 2005 in The Woodlands, TX which includes the evaluation and treatment of venous disorders using ultrasound guided sclerotherapy, ambulatory phlebectomy and the newest laser techniques to remove even the largest varicose veins safely, effectively and comfortably in the office. His background includes 3 years of medical research at M.D. Anderson Cancer in Houston, genetic studies at the Mayo College of Medicine in Rochester MN, and internship in Pathology at UTMB and development of rapid hemoglobin analysis by capillary electrophoresis for Hellana Labs in Beaumont Texas.

The American Board of Phlebology (americaboardofphlebology.org) is an independent, non-profit organization, AMA recognized and founded in 2007 for the purpose of certifying physicians who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge in the field of Phlebology. The American Board of Phlebology (ABPh) was established to:

- Improve the standards of medical practitioners and the quality of patient care related to the treatment of venous disorders and all aspects of venous disease

- Serve the public and the medical profession by establishing initial and continuing qualifications for certification and maintenance of certification as physician specialists in the practice of Phlebology

- Examine physician candidates for certification and maintenance of certification in the practice of Phlebology
