LSC-Montgomery names ‘Maverick’ Mascot
THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Last month, Lone Star College-Montgomery debuted its new mascot, a white horse—a maverick—with a blue mane and tail, at the college’s 15th anniversary celebration. What was missing, however, was the maverick’s name.
Problem solved. With a list of more than 100 suggested names from an online submission process over the last month, a clear winner emerged–Monty, which is often used as a shortened version of ‘Montgomery.’
“Monty was easily the most popular choice,” said Steve Scheffler, dean of college relations at LSC-Montgomery. “It garnered four times the number of submissions as the second-most popular choice, which was Montgomery. Monty is a great name for our maverick. Obviously, our students, faculty and staff love it.”
The next step in the mascot process is the creation of a graphic that depicts the maverick in a bold, exciting manner, said Scheffler. That should be ready in a couple of weeks.
“Our goal with the new mascot is to make it a fixture—not only on our campus, but out in the community as well,” added Scheffler. “If anyone is interested in inviting our mascot to their community event, I know that Monty would love to attend.”
