THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The 60+ Dance Club has announced its 19th Anniversary dance for April 20.

The dance will be from 7 - 10 p.m. at the Conroe Recreation Center at 1203 Callahan Ave in Candy Cane Park.

The club was started in 1993 by Bob Steele as affordable entertainment for seniors. From a modest start, they now have a large library of CDs and a sound system and a growing attendance. Participants enjoy a clean and safe environment that is non-smoking and alcohol-free.

A professional disc jockey or band plays music at least once a month. The other dance music is furnished by volunteers in the club, who are dancers. We have special dances once a month, including Sadie Hawkins, Hawaiian, ’50s and ’60s and Westerns.

Costumes are not a must for these, but are fun.

The dance club is sponsored by The Friendship Center and the Conroe Recreation Department. The club is self-supporting and only collects admission to provide live bands and a professional D.J. monthly.

The 60+ Dance club hosts 4 dances a month. The dances are the first and second Thursday of each month at the Community Center in The Woodlands at Grogan’s Mill Road and Lake Robbins Drive, where The Friendship Center meets, on the third and fourth Friday in Conroe at the Recreation Center.

The 19th Anniversary Dance this Friday will feature The “Nite Session Band” playing a variety of great music including big band, country, golden oldies, line dances and popular mixers.

You don’t have to be over 60 to attend as all respectful adults are welcome. Singles and couples are invited and dress is casual. Everyone is encouraged to bring a snack dish to share during intermission, where door prizes will be given. We represent a large group of seniors so come out and join us and have fun.
