THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Covenant United Methodist Church, one of the newest churches worshiping in The Woodlands, invites the community to celebrate Christmas a little early. It is offering a special Community Christmas Candlelight Service on Wednesday, December 18, at 7 p.m. The service will be hosted in the outdoor amphitheatre at the Creekside YMCA (6464 Creekside Forest Dr., Spring, TX 77389).

Following the service, hot cocoa and holiday treats will be served during a time of fellowship by the YMCA’s outdoor fireplace. In case of inclimate weather, the event will move indoors to the YMCA’s lodge.

“This is the perfect opportunity, especially for those families or individuals who are leaving town or traveling for the holidays, to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in a unique and special way,” said Jason Burnham, founding pastor of Covenant UMC. “According to Scriptures, Jesus was born outdoors in a manger, so we're heading outdoors for worship. We'll bring the community together to sing traditional carols and contemporary songs of worship as we hear afresh the good news of Jesus' birth.”

Covenant United Methodist Church recently outgrew its regular Sunday worship space at the Creekside YMCA and has moved to a new location, Timber Creek Elementary School. The school is located at the corner of Kuykendahl and Creekside Green Dr. at 8455 Creekside Green Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77389, in the Village of Creekside Park.

“The move was a momentous occasion in the life of our church,” said Burnham. “In less than two years, God has birthed a growing, vibrant community of people connected in Christ. This move allows us to continue to grow as we work toward a permanent location.”

“While we were blessed to have the use of the Creekside YMCA, we reached capacity at that location. Our worship attendance has grown steadily, and our children’s programs were busting at the seams.”

Burnham also noted that the school’s location just off Kuykendahl at Creekside Green gives the church exposure to the growing communities in that area.

“Covenant is uniquely positioned,” he said of the growing church. “Geographically, we couldn’t be in a better spot. There is so much growth in the southern part of The Woodlands, north Spring, and Tomball. Being one of only a couple places of worship in the Village of Creekside Park certainly doesn’t hurt, either.”

In addition to contemporary worship services on Sundays at 10 a.m., Covenant UMC offers a vibrant, growing children’s and youth program, as well as adult small groups, mission and outreach opportunities on a local, regional and international level.

For the first time in its short history, Covenant UMC will offer a Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, at Timber Creek Elementary School.

While the church doesn’t own land yet, there are plans to purchase property on a major thoroughfare somewhere south of Spring Creek in the vicinity of the Village of Creekside Park.

“God has provided a virtual blank slate for Covenant,” said Burnham. “I feel so excited—so blessed—to serve alongside the growing number of worshippers in this dynamic congregation.”
