UPDATE:

Accident at I-45N south of Woodlands flyover shuts freeway down for over two hours.


The Department of Public Safety investigators have identified the man killed in the auto-pedestrian accident in The Woodlands early Friday morning, as 74-year-old Bobby Lee Poe, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. The DPS said he was pushing a garbage can on the freeway when he was hit.



ORIGINAL STORY:

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- A fatal accident at 5:30 a.m., Friday, February 21, has three main lanes blocked on I-45N southbound, just south of The Woodlands Parkway. According to the Department of Public Safety, an elderly male suffering from Alzheimer’s, attempted to cross I-45 and was struck and killed.

The freeway has been closed for a couple of hours while the investigation takes place. A check of the traffic cameras shows that traffic is still backed up to FM 1488 as of 7:30 a.m. Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for updates.
