THE WOODLANDS, TX – Recently, Brad Bailey, chairman of The Woodlands Township Board of Directors, told Woodlands Online of his impending proposal – which was made at the most recent Township board meeting – to enter The Woodlands into a contest of a unique sort.

The ‘Tunnel Vision Project Proposal’ comes from The Boring Company, owned by Elon Musk, where communities submit proposals to have a tunnel system added to the infrastructure. At the board meeting, members approved a letter of support for the tunnel project.

The Township’s draft concept, known as “The Current,” includes two parallel 12-foot diameter tunnels designed to potentially transport passengers in electric vehicles beneath the Town Center corridor near The Waterway, connecting key destinations and enhancing mobility during peak periods and major events.

“I’m very excited to announce this at the board meeting,” Bailey told Woodlands Online. “Can you just imagine this next level of mobility added to The Woodlands for a whole new generation? This tunnel would be planned and constructed free of charge. It could set the standard for even more tunnel possibilities in The Woodlands.”

According to The Boring Company, the proposal includes a tunnel up to one mile in length and can be a loop tunnel, a freight tunnel, a pedestrian tunnel, a utility tunnel, a water tunnel, or any other use case where a tunnel would be useful. Prufrock is designed to construct mega-infrastructure projects in a matter of weeks instead of years.

Submissions for the project are due Monday, February 23, 2026, and the winning community or entity will be announced on March 23. Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for updates.
