The Woodlands observes National Day of Prayer May 1

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The National Day of Prayer will be observed in The Woodlands, Thursday, May 1. Designated by the United States Congress in 1952, the National Day of Prayer is observed the first Thursday of May, however, days of prayer have been called for since 1775, when the Continental Congress designated a time for prayer in forming a new nation.

The observance will take place at a couple of community venues:

The YMCA and Village Park Church will hold a prayer observance for our country at the Creekside YMCA location at 6464 Creekside Forest Drive, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A community prayer will be led at Village Park Church, and in addition to family-friendly activities, a light dinner, donated by Chick-fil-A Alden Bridge, will be served to the first 150 in attendance. The Woodlands First Baptist Church will host a National Day of Prayer and Veteran Celebration titled “One Voice United!” The event will be held at 10 a.m. and admission is free. The program will consist of a prayer for America, a flag ceremony along with an Armed Forces salute, American songs and hymns performed by a multi-generational choir which will include The Woodlands Home School Choir and The Woodlands First Baptist Senior Sing-alongs.

The community is cordially invited. Invite friends, neighbors, and veterans. For groups of ten or more, reserve group seating can be arranged by calling The Woodlands First Baptist Church at 281- 367-4317. The Woodlands First Baptist Church is located at 11801 Grogans Mill Road.

Traditionally each year, the President of the United States issues an official National Day of Prayer proclamation as well.
