MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- The Texas Tax-Free Weekend is this Friday through Sunday, August 8 - 10, and savvy shoppers can stretch their ‘back-to-school’ shopping budget by taking advantage of the savings offered by the non-profit organizations’ resale shops scattered throughout Montgomery County, helping essential causes at the same time.

Help your budget and an essential cause when shopping for back-to-school clothing.

The average family spends over $600 on back-to-school shopping, and the tax free weekend is a great way to save $8 for every $100 spent. The state law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies, from being charged sales tax, but some items are excluded. For instance, backpacks priced under $100 are tax-exempt for elementary and secondary students, but a gym bag is a taxable item. Some items that are not tax free include diapers, baseball caps, sports jerseys, and employee uniforms. To view the list of tax-exempt items read Texas tax-free weekend is Aug 8-10.
