Rhonda Sheldon named new art coordinator at The Woodlands Children's Museum

THE WOODLANDS, Texas –There’s a new face stationed at “the Muse” – an exhibit dedicated to exploring culture through hands-on art and its processes at The Woodlands Children’s Museum.

Rhonda Sheldon joined the museum staff in December and is now serving as the new art coordinator.

Sheldon retired after a 13-year career as a patent attorney and started her own business as a professional organizer called “Science of Organizing.”

“I decided I wanted to do something different, something that was more physically active,” she said.

Sheldon also taught part time at the Madam Newton-Einstein Science Academy for Kids, before the school closed at the end of the year. She was looking around for a new part-time teaching job, when she heard that The Woodlands Children’s Museum was hiring.

“I’m really intrigued by all things art,” she said. “It’s always been something important in my life.”

In fact, Sheldon is a self-taught jewelry maker and designer, who specializes in silversmithing and beading. “I decided to make my own wedding jewelry,” she said. “I picked up a book and figured out how to make something. It’s been kind of an addiction since that.”

Sheldon said working in the Muse allows her to explore her artistic side. “I can’t wait to get up and go to work every day,” she said. “It’s an adventure.”

She believes that her background in biochemistry and law has actually helped to prepare her for this position. “The gap between art and science is not as big as you might think,” she said. “It’s all about experimenting and finding out how things work – and that’s really fun for me.”
